Suzuki Burgman Street Review

The Burgman Street is the only scooter of its kind in India, here is what it’s like.

  • The Burgman has a comfortable riding position.
  • The front apron is large and appealing.
  • The LED headlight is the most powerful in the segment.
  • The scooter has a large muffler.

While Honda has done really well in the 110cc segment with the Activa, the same can’t be said about the 125cc segment. This space is controlled by the Suzuki Access 125 from a long time now. To keep this success going, the bike maker has now launched a maxi-scooter in India. Called the Burgman Street, it is developed specifically for the Indian market and here’s what we think of it.

On the outside

A big reason for the attention this scooter has been getting is its unique styling. We first saw it at the 2018 Auto Expo under bright lights and positioned next two-wheelers much larger in size. This was a big reason why we couldn’t understand the proportions of the car. We are happy to report that the scooter looks nice and appealing out on the road. The large front apron with the windscreen is a big styling feature of the bike. This piece of bodywork also has a LED headlight and turn indicator integrated into it. The scooter also has a large muffler towards the rear that works well with the design. The rear tyre also looks a bit skinny and wider rubber would have looked nicer.

We were also surprised by just how powerful the LED headlight on this scooter was. It has a huge throw and one of the best we have experienced in the affordable motorcycle segment. The Burgman is also the first Suzuki scooter in India to have a fully digital instrument cluster. It display all of the necessary information but nowhere near as extensive as the one on the TVS Ntorq.

The Burgman also has a good amount of storage capacity. The apron has a compartment that can fit a two-litre bottle. On the other side, there is a compartment with a door and 12V socket where you can charge your electronic devices. While the under seat space is adequate, it cannot store an international-spec full helmet. Overall, the unique styling does make this scooter an attention grabber.

How does it perform?

When you get on to the scooter, you will notice the different riding position. The scooter has a wide handlebar, windscreen and large legroom. The scooter also has a footrest on the apron that allows for a comfortable riding position. This will help those who have longer commutes. The seat on the scooter is also well-padded making it pillion friendly.

The Burgman Street uses the same 124cc engine from the Access 125 that makes 8.7hp. Furthermore, the scooter also weights 7kg more than the Access, but it still accelerates pretty decently. The refinement levels are good however, the motor can be little noisy at higher revs.

We only got to ride the Burgman for a short while, which is why we couldn’t conduct fuel efficiency tests. The company claims that the bike returns 53kpl.

Should I buy one?

We feel that this scooter is a good addition to the Indian market. While it may not be as sporty as some of its competition, the Burgman does everything a scooter should. It is roomy and well-equipped. Yes, the Access 125 is cheaper but this scooter is different. The Burgman offers exclusivity in a segment filled with scooters that look very similar. Along with the styling is a premium feature like the LED headlight and as you know this comes at a price. To be precise, the Burgman Street will cost Rs 68,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
